In Ayurveda, eyes have been considered a crucial element of the body so its protection is a wise choice to remember. Eye cancer is one of the prevalent eye diseases and fortunately, India has few cases of it. It is a condition where cells in or around the eyes grow uncontrollably, forming a tumour. It’s important to detect it early for effective control.
Doctors have emphasized, “Early detection is vital for controlling eye cancer.” Common symptoms include blurred vision, vision loss, shadows, flashes of light, dark patches, bulging eyes, eyelid lumps, and eye pain. If these signs occur, contacting a physician promptly is advised.
Ayurveda links persistent redness and inflammation to elevated Pitta dosha, signifying excessive heat. Prolonged vision changes suggest disturbances in Vata dosha, responsible for movement and perception. Dr Mandeep Singh Basu notes, “If your eyes often feel dry and gritty in Ayurveda, it could mean there’s an issue with ‘Kapha dosha.’”
Ayurvedic practitioners examine tear quality; watery eyes with strange discharge may indicate a humour balance problem. Unusual growths around the eyes are seen as a severe dosha imbalance sign needing attention.
Eye cancer treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, laser therapy, and chemotherapy. The choice depends on the tumour type, size, and extent. Radiation therapy uses X-rays to kill cancer cells, laser therapy employs infrared light to burn the tumour, and chemotherapy may be considered if cancer spreads but is less effective.
Early detection and a holistic approach, such as those offered by Ayurveda, play crucial roles in managing eye cancer. If symptoms arise, seeking medical advice promptly is recommended to ensure better outcomes.
