In its latest weather report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the weather condition over the next two weeks.

The report talked about rainfall and dense fog warnings along with minimum temperature forecast.

The agency said that there is a possibility of isolated light rainfall or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, isolated light rainfall is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and northwest Rajasthan on December 22nd and 23rd. There is also a chance of isolated light rainfall in northwest Uttar Pradesh and northeast Rajasthan on December 23rd.

Further, the IMD said that isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and the Lakshadweep area are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall over five days. There is no significant rainfall anticipated in the remaining parts of the country for the next week. Overall, below-normal rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu during week 1, with predominantly dry conditions in the rest of the country, except for the northeastern states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where rainfall is expected to be normal to below normal.

Week 2 (Dec 28 – Jan3)

No active Western Disturbance is expected to impact northwest India throughout the week. However, the passage of a mid-latitude Westerly trough is conducive to light rainfall in the Western Himalayas.

There is a likelihood of light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the extreme south Peninsular India and Islands during the week. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated for one or two days over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands in the first half of the week and over Tamil Nadu in the second half.

Overall, normal to above-normal rainfall activity is expected over the extreme south Peninsular India, while the rest of the country is likely to experience mainly dry weather. Exceptions include the northeastern states, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and the western Himalayan region, where rainfall is expected to be normal to below normal.

In the report published on December 21, the IMD predicted that dense to very dense fog conditions are expected in the morning hours at isolated pockets of Punjab over the next few days. Similarly, dense fog conditions are likely in the morning hours at isolated pockets of Haryana for the next 4 days, in north Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for the next 3 days, and in Odisha on December 23 and 24.
