Centre bans non-essential construction work, plying of polluting 4-wheelers in Delhi-NCR
The Centre on Friday ordered a ban on non-essential construction work and plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi-NCR amid worsening air quality in the region. Unfavourable meteorological conditions including fog and haze with low wind speed are the major causes for a sudden spike in Delhi’s daily average air quality index (AQI), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), a statutory body responsible for formulating strategies to combat pollution in the region, said in an order. Pak Supreme Court approves Imran Khan, his aide Qureshi’s bail in cipher case
Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Friday instructed the election commission to address the concerns of jailed former premier Imran Khan’s party about the lack of a level playing field in the upcoming February 8 general elections. A three-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali issued orders on a petition filed by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The Palestinian death toll in Gaza surpassed 20,000, health officials said Friday, the latest indication of the staggering cost of the war as Israel expanded its ground offensive and ordered tens of thousands more people to leave their homes. The deaths, amounting to nearly 1% of the territory’s prewar population, are just one measure of the devastation wrought by the conflict that over 11 weeks has displaced nearly 85% of Gaza’s people and leveled wide swaths of the tiny coastal enclave. More than half a million people in Gaza — a quarter of the population — are starving, according to a report. (AP)
Vin Diesel accused of sexual harassment of former assistant
‘Fast and Furious’ franchise star Vin Diesel has been accused of sexual assault by a former assistant. The Hollywood actor allegedly sexually assaulted Asta Jonasson in 2010 when she was working on the ‘Fast Five’ set in Atlanta, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Thursday, reported CNN. In a civil suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Diesel’s former assistant, Asta Jonasson, alleged he forced himself on her in a hotel suite in Atlanta in 2010.
Security tightened near Parliament in view of protests against suspension of MPs

The Ukrainian military shot down 24 of 28 attack drones launched overnight by Russia, Kyiv’s air force said on Friday. The Iranian-made drones were destroyed over parts of central, southern and western Ukraine. At least two injuries were reported in the capital Kyiv.

Noida reports first Covid case in months as man tests positive
A Noida resident has tested positive for Covid, in a first case of the infection in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar after several months, officials said. The patient is a 54-year-old male who lives in Noida but works at a multinational company in Gurugram, Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Sharma said on Thursday.
