Dunki Box Office Collection Day 1: Shah Rukh Khan’s film falls short on opening day compared to Jawan and Pathaan; Trails behind Adipurush and Sanju

Shah Rukh Khan, who enjoyed a phenomenal year with the blockbuster success of Jawan and Pathaan, is facing a different scenario with his latest release, Dunki. Despite his recent triumphs, Dunki failed to generate the same level of excitement upon its theatrical debut. The film, released on Thursday, garnered Rs 30 crore nett domestically on its opening day, marking it as the seventh-largest opener of the year, trailing behind Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2, and Adipurush. Jawan, in particular, set a high bar with a staggering Rs 75 crore opening, while even the widely criticized Adipurush managed Rs 36 crore on its opening day.

Although Dunki’s opening day figures label it as Shah Rukh Khan’s least successful film of the year, it still outperformed Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Rs 15.81 crore), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (Rs 15.73 crore), Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11.1 crore), and Dream Girl 2 (Rs 10.69 crore).

Despite being Shah Rukh Khan’s least successful film of the year, Dunki’s opening day figures still outshine his 2018 release, Zero, which opened with Rs 19.35 crore and had a lifetime collection of Rs 90.28 crore. For director Rajkumar Hirani, known for his consistent box office success, Dunki’s opening figures fall short compared to his last hit, 2018’s Sanju. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer opened with Rs 34.75 crore and went on to accumulate Rs 342.53 crore during its theatrical run. Released in the wake of Animal’s remarkable success, Dunki also features Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, among others.
