3 more arrests by ED over money laundering case against Vivo-India
The Enforcement Directorate has made three fresh arrests in connection with its money laundering probe against Chinese smartphone-maker Vivo and some others, official sources said on Saturday. The three have been taken into custody under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), they said. The identity of the three people was not known immediately. (PTI)
Supply of ‘non-standard’ drugs in Delhi govt hospitals: LG recommends CBI inquiry
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has recommended a CBI inquiry into the alleged procurement and supply of “non-standard” drugs in Delhi government hospitals, Raj Niwas officials said on Saturday. When asked about the matter, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai told PTI that the government will come out with a detailed response. He also alleged that there is an attempt to obstruct the work of the government through such inquiries. (PTI)
Volkswagen India extends service support to flood-hit customers in TN
European automaker Volkswagen India has extended its enhanced service support to affected customers in Tamil Nadu following the impact of heavy rains and flooding in the state, the company said on Saturday. The initiative, with effect from December 22, would offer service support to flood affected car owners including Roadside Assistance, special benefits on parts, labour costs and car care treatment among others.
ECI to release Bengal’s final voters list next month
A senior official announced on Saturday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to unveil the final voters’ list for West Bengal in January 2024. Following the release of the list, the ECI plans to dispatch its complete bench to West Bengal. The official mentioned that communications have been sent to the state’s chief secretary and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), instructing them to initiate preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Bomb found in train at Karachi’s Cantt railway station, defused
The Sindh Counter Terrorism Department has foiled a terror attack at the main railway station of Pakistan’s biggest city Karachi when a time bomb was found in a train. Asad Raza, DIG Operations CTD, said that on Friday they found an IED device in a bag which was placed under a seat of the Peshawar Express from Peshawar which had just reached the Karachi Cantt Station. Motivational speaker Vivek Bindra booked for domestic violence
Entrepreneur and motivational speaker Vivek Bindra has been booked for allegedly assaulting his wife in Noida, police officials said on Saturday. The police said they were investigating the allegations and would take action upon probe.Bindra could not be contacted immediately for his response. The FIR was lodged at the Sector 126 police station on December 14 after a complaint by Vaibhav Kwatra, brother of Bindra’s wife Yanika. (READ MORE)
4 killed in bus-tractor collision in Ananthapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh
Four people were killed in a road accident when a private bus collided with a tractor loaded with rice flour bags on National Highway 44 near Kallur village in Andhra’s Ananthapuramu district on Saturday, said police. The intensity of the collision was such that the front of the bus was completely wrecked and the bags of rice flour were scattered across the road.
752 new Covid cases, 4 deaths reported in 24 hours
India saw a single-day rise of 752 coronavirus infections, the highest since May 21, 2023, while the active cases have increased to 3,420, according to Union health ministry data updated on Saturday. The death toll was recorded at 5,33,332 with four new deaths — two from Kerala, one each in Rajasthan and Karnataka — reported in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated.
